A good George III mahogany 8-day longcase clock showing "high water at Bristol key".

Aaron Austin (father) working 1760s/70s.

Fully working, serviced.

This is a very nice example of this popular type of tidal dial clock. The dial is traditional pre 1780 style with silvered chapter ring and nicely engraved/ silvered centre. The arch contains a moon phase indicator along with calibration for the high water times. Hands are original steel type, seconds hand with large tail is a nice feature.

The case is substantially built with typical Bristol 'double' pediment and some up-market features including stringing, shaped door top and fretwork above the arch. As with most original cases it does show some signs of age but overall a good, deep colour and polish.

The movement is of typical 8-day, 2-train format striking the hours on a bell.

The clock is complete with brass-faced pendulum, lead weights, winder and trunk door key (working lock).

Overall height including centre finial is 92 inches.
