Henry Miles Chippenham. Circa 1760. Red lacquer 'picture' case. Musical 8 bell movement.
A gloriously ornate George III red lacquer longcase clock with pictures to the front panels. Musical 3-train movement playing 2 tunes on 8 bells.

Very rare clock, red lacquer is one of the rarer colours, lacquer clocks with pictures represent a small percentage of the type. I have not seen another red lacquer/ picture clock in many years of collecting.
The clock is fully working, the movement has been serviced and checked for correct operation.
Henry Miles was a maker working in Chippenham around the mid 18th century, I would date this around 1760 from the dial and case features. As with the majority of musical clocks the movement has been later changed (Victorian).
Two tunes (Whittington and Westminster) are selectable from the lever to the right of the dial. Nicely tuned and sweet sounding bells.
Brass-cased weights (chime weight very heavy!), strike/ silent to the arch which also silences the chimes.
With centre finial in place the overall height is 97 inches, without finial around 91 inches.
Condition is generally good, the case has excellent colour and enough patination to give the sense of age without being too scruffy, the perfect compromise for lacquer clocks in my opinion.
